Kirby's Adventure has been made over in Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland. Not much has changed about how the game is played. Kirby still absorbs enemies to steal their skills. In addition to new graphics, some level designs have been changed, the mini-bosses have grown, and one of the rolling turtles has been replaced with an elephant-like creature. Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land is a typical platformer Kirby game. The player controls Kirby, and using Copy Abilities, his goal is to get to the end of each stage. Each stage is split into smaller parts that each end with a door that leads to the next part. You have to beat the boss at the end of each level, which is about 5 or 6 rounds, to get a piece of the Star Rod back.
Most of the time, the game plays the same as the original NES version. The level plans were mostly left alone, though some areas were changed and tools were added to make them work better with the new graphics style.
Some of the new things in the remake are support for four players, 32-bit graphics, less difficulty, hats for most abilities, new versions of the three main sub-games from Kirby's Adventure, new versions of some enemies from the original, and changes to some levels. There are also changes to how some Copy Abilities work. For example, Needle Kirby's spikes no longer retract themselves instantly, Wheel Kirby can drive on water, and Backdrop Kirby dash-and-grabs enemies instead of inhale-and-grab them.
Meta Knight is the main bad guy and Kirby's rival. He first appears available in the side game Meta Knightmare after Kirby finishes Extra Mode. Meta Knightmare is like Extra Mode, but you play as Meta Knight. He only has three health points, can't save, and instead of copying skills, he uses different sword techniques.
